Planning has already begun for the 2025-2026 school year. We expect there to be a middle school musical in the fall and an elementary school musical in the spring. Many details are still to be determined, including space to rehearse and perform and the cost to participate. It is possible that more fundraising will need to be done in the future to offset rising costs and keep participation fees manageable.
For any questions regarding the Pierce School Musical please contact the producer, Larry Whitney at Lawrence.Whitney.LC@gmail.com.
We are so grateful for the willingness of parents to help make the musicals possible and we encourage all willing volunteers to fill out the following form as preparations are made for the coming year.
The form below will be submitted to him. THANK YOU!Pierce Musical Volunteer Interest Form:
Update from PTO Coffee Connections, March 14th, 2025
Pierce parent and musical producer, Larry Whitney, provided an update about the Pierce Musical for the current school year and talked about plans for 2025-2026. He discussed the challenges going into the 2024-2025 school year, which included transitioning away from the old musical infrastructure to a new one and the complications of moving school locations. Due to these factors, the decision was made not to have a fall musical and to host two musicals in the spring of 2025.
The two major challenges to producing the musicals in the spring was space and staffing. Fisher Hill cannot be used after school for extracurricular events and OLS space is shared with programs like PSED and athletics. While we were ultimately able to find solutions using OLS and Lawrence, it was the inability to fill key staffing roles that resulted in the cancellation of the musical for this year.
In prior years, the musical hired and paid staff directly, which required tax reporting and maintaining key insurance like worker's comp. The decision was made that it would be better to partner with an organization like Art Barn that already had the necessary infrastructure to handle employment issues. We worked closely with Art Barn to find a director, choreographer, and musical director for this year, but due to unexpected departures, they determined in early February that they were not able to provide the staff we needed. Given the timing of this news, it became clear that the Pierce Musical would not happen this year.
